How it works

How we find a water line leak

From the meter in, one section at a time.

  1. Read the meter

    Read the meter

Everything off at the house. If the meter moves, the leak is between it and your shut-off.

  2. Isolate the main

    Isolate the main

The line is valved off at both ends and pressure tested so we know it is this run and not the house.

  3. Listen along the line

    Listen along the line

Electronic listening follows the line through the yard or driveway to the break.

  4. Mark it, fix it, test it

Mark it, fix it, test it

Marked on the ground, repaired or replaced if you want us to, and pressure tested again to prove it held.

Good questions

Water line leak detection questions, answered.

Straight answers from the Aqua Doctor team. If you don't see your question, give us a call.

You are. The utility owns the meter and the line on the street side. Everything from the meter to the house is the homeowner's, which is why finding the exact spot matters.

Shut the valve at the house. If the meter keeps moving, the leak is on the main line. If it stops, the leak is inside or under the house, and we test that instead.

A single break in a sound line gets repaired. Old poly or galvanized lines that are failing get replaced, and the findings say which you have so you can decide.

One to three hours. Long runs and lines under concrete take longer.

Yes. Every detection comes with written findings and photos showing where the leak is and what failed the test. Builders, warranty companies and adjusters get what they need.

Detection is a flat fee, quoted before we come out, based on what is being tested. Repairs are priced separately once the leak is found, and nothing starts without your approval.
