Pool Chlorine Wash in Phoenix

A chlorine wash kills algae and lifts organic stains off plaster without taking the surface with it. For a green pool it is often the better call than acid.

When a chlorine wash is right

For algae, not minerals.

Chlorine works on the living stuff: algae, mold, organic stains. It will not touch calcium or metal stains. Those need blasting or acid, and we say which.

  • Green pool after a long shutdown
  • Black algae spots in plaster
  • Yellow or mustard algae stains
  • Pool left stagnant over a sale
  • Mold and organic film
  • Pre-season cleanup
  • Before a plaster inspection
  • When acid is too harsh for the finish

How it works

How a chlorine wash goes

Drain, wash, rinse, refill. Done in a day when the weather allows.

  1. Confirm it is the fix

    Confirm it is the fix

Organic stain, chlorine. Mineral stain, acid. Calcium on tile, blasting. We check before anything is drained.

  2. Drain and prep

    Drain and prep

The pool is drained with the hydrostatic valve in mind and the surface is checked for damage.

  3. Wash and rinse

    Wash and rinse

A strong chlorine solution is worked across the plaster in sections, then rinsed so nothing is left in the shell.

  4. Refill and balance

    Refill and balance

The pool refills right away and the chemistry is started so the algae does not come back.

Good questions

Chlorine wash questions, answered.

Straight answers from the Aqua Doctor team. If you don't see your question, give us a call.

Chlorine for algae and organic stains; it leaves the plaster alone. Acid for mineral stains and mottled plaster; it removes a thin layer. A green pool usually wants chlorine first. We tell you which before quoting.

Much less than acid. It does not remove material. Very old or soft plaster is still checked first, because draining alone is a stress on it.

The wash itself is a few hours. Draining and refilling add a day or more depending on pool size and fill rate.

Sometimes. A pool that is green but not stained can often be brought back chemically. One that has been stagnant for weeks, or has black algae rooted in the plaster, usually needs the wash.

Cooler months, same as any drain. An empty pool in July is a risk to the plaster, so summer washes are kept short.

Priced by pool size and condition, quoted before we come out. The refill water is billed by your utility.
